An infrequently used double bed took up most of the floor space in this guest bedroom, frustrating my client, who had to make space in the living room when required to work from home or to enjoy her hobbies of dressmaking and yoga.

I took advantage of a step back in the wall line to minimise the impact of the sleek wall bed with desk, shelving and storage. I specified durable, toning finishes for this multifunctional item of furniture - satin finish for the bed frame and storage locker, and textured pale wood veneer on the desk and shelving unit above.

The room is now uncluttered and used by the client in multiple ways. Integrated lighting in the shelf over the desk enhances working from home or using the sewing machine, and the floor space is now free to lay out fabrics for cutting or a yoga mat for her daily practice.

The room still serves as a guest room, with a comfortable double bed ready to fold down at a moment’s notice.
