Howth - Scaling back to an elegant new home

An accomplished, mid-life professional couple was scaling back ahead of retirement, but still wished to preserve a strong sense of scale, elegance and architectural presence in their new home.

The brief was to reinterpret the owners’ traditional tastes to suit their new home — creating luxurious interiors that felt light and considered, without diminishing grandeur.

The property’s generous proportions and classical character called for a sophisticated material palette that bridged contemporary refinement with traditional craftsmanship. The design direction focused on depth, texture and subtle layering, ensuring the rooms felt cohesive, elegant and enduring.

Richly textured wallcoverings, luxurious deep-pile carpets, bespoke furnishings and statement light fittings were introduced to enhance the volume of each space while maintaining visual clarity. Through a considered balance of scale, proportion and detail, the interiors were shaped into graceful rooms with character — combining relaxed formality with understated comfort.

The result is a home that feels both grounded and elevated: timeless in foundation, contemporary in expression, and perfectly attuned to the next chapter of the clients’ lives.
