The 1980’s conversion of a stone barn in a spectacular hillside setting had become dated, and a modernist extension was designed to provide much-needed space for this growing family.
The brief was to provide a cohesive scheme that would seamlessly unite the two buildings and update the interiors for practical and elegant family spaces.
A modern crystal chandelier lighting the elegant, vaulted hallway at the heart of the building, and bespoke forged balustrading on a new sweeping stone staircase link the two buildings both in style and design.
I designed bespoke walnut doors and a suite of contemporary bathrooms for continuity of style throughout the interior.
I specified natural stone flooring and fire surrounds in honed finishes downstairs and echoed them in plush carpets throughout the bedrooms for refined luxury underfoot. A palette of rich fabrics and textures for the curtains and furnishings, and neutral wall colours were selected to form the backdrop for the owner’s extensive contemporary art collection.
Specialist areas within the home include a sauna for the owner - a keen cyclist - to relax in, and a Cinema room, just off the vaulted wine cellar and tasting room, equipped with reclining seats and a popcorn machine for family movie nights and children’s parties.
